Lee Wood Products: High Tech Collection Neo 50s

Lee Wood is the winner of the fashion designer clothing section competition who’s on next in Rome. English by birth, Italian at the heart.
Lee Wood is British by birth but Italian in the heart: in Italy has been there for almost 20 years. His story teaches us to cultivate ideas and visions and to believe in fate. If it is written, you are certain that it will happen.

  1. How did you start designing for fashion?
As a child I always created, I was the classic boy who brought a gift, but once unpacked, put me to play with the box, forgetting its content. Eyes and hands were always moving, creating, thinking and creating. I studied Art and Fashion Design at the Berkshire College of Art & Design… but at the time of my degree I felt the need to become independent from my family, which had been so generous in support me along the way of training, and I left for London.
  2. How did it go?
I started working as a clerk in clothing stores like Top-mba-universities, then I continued with then stylist and then the internship, later became assistant stylist, in 1998… I met her, Donatella Versace. And it was love at first sight.
  3. The first years were like in Versace?
Incredibles. I did not speak Italian, I tried to understand and listened to your italian sound. But I can say that since this is creativity, my drawings were talking to me a universal language. I was happy. I was in a creative dream, working for Donatella was like taking the gym in the luxury world. I designed everything from pret-a-porter to furniture, high fashion.
  4. 16 years in Versace: it was hard to say Good Bye?
16 years have been wonderful, a really beautiful where I grew up and matured, but at the age of 40 something clicked inside me. I stay where I am or my chin into play stylistically and creatively? Why not try to get out of a situation of comfort zone and test myself? These were the questions that whirled in my head last year. Draw for Maison is like acting in a movie, interpreters the spirit and soul of the brand. But in addition to the ability to interpret, in a designer there are many untapped ideas, all waiting to be developed out of context.
  5. In a year everything changed.
Exactly. In one year I opened my consulting practice, I worked for several customers at the same time also on my ideas. To keep the site of the study have been manufacturing the heads, like a capsule and to photograph them. I started to enter the stylistic foundations of my personal taste, though without thinking of any developments. Some friend, observing from afar what I was doing stimulated me and suggested to look beyond the walls of the studio… and I realized that the stage to tell the world had come. At that moment came the Zero Collection.
  6. There the stories?
I wanted to create a unisex collection, where development sized man/woman almost always overlap. A heavily contaminated casual style from the purism of the 50s, a period of history that I particularly like. The architectural style, born in post-war America, represented in fashion a strong key of experimentation. I blurred the boundaries by combining genres and I did the same with the tissues. The Sports Network I coupled to wool and cashmere, is the skin that the jersey in double viscose. The color palette goes from black and white through the nude/beige up to the blue and yellow pastel neo 50s. A collection that gives a nod to the future and combines street-style to elegant. The male part speaks to a healthy man, healthy and athletic and has a lot of self-care.

The SS16 collection, which I presented in Rome at the who’s on next, called Collection One: Primary.
Where the primary term means arriving first, in order. The primary colors of RYB (Red, Yellow and Blue) of the classic Lego bricks played with as a child, now change to RGB (Red Green Blue): are the additive primary colors of light transmitted through the digital reproduction. I also used in the decorations of CD segments.

  1. Your always
    Years 50
    The Democratic Fashion
    Design
  2. Your ever?
    The effeminate men
Enough with the vintage: designers must stop sign tributes to the decades past. They have to create something that does not yet exist, in short, look to the future.
    No more racism, homophobia, ignorance.
  3. Who wants to take this route in the world of fashion design do you suggest?
Of study and do a training period. It needs to develop a personal taste through the observation of the work of professional figures. And when it comes time to take flight suggest you take the opportunity, provided there is genuine awareness that is going to draw. I believe in destiny and in its timing, and you?
